HIYC Sail Camp is a day camp program for children and teens ages seven through 17. No previous sailing experience is necessary. It is structured to build sailing skills for beginners through advanced sailors. Our goal is to introduce children and teens to sailing, sailboat racing and advanced knowledge of small boat handling in a safe, fun environment. The program is taught by knowledgeable, trained young adults and caring counselors, all of whom are required to complete a full week of staff training. Instructors have US Sailing Instructor certification.
This summer, HIYC Sail Camp will be hosted for only four weeks on Old Hickory Lake, Monday-Friday, 9:00am to 4:00pm. (No before or aftercare is provided).
Sign up for one week or more. The number of campers is limited, so don’t wait. Register now at the link above.
Our sailboats are exclusive to HIYC Sail Camp. We sail several types of boats, including Optimist Prams, Lasers, RS Zests, and RS Feva XLs. Our brand new RS boats joined our fleet in 2020. Campers are assigned to boats according to age and skill level.

Julie Bollinger, Assistant Camp Director
Julie started sailing 16 years ago and became instantly hooked on the sport. She is a certified US Sailing instructor and has spent 8 summers teaching sailing to youth. In addition to teaching locally on Old Hickory and Percy Priest lakes, Julie has also taught on Kentucky Lake, in the Florida Keys, and in Croatia. Julie is an active sailboat racer who loves to race her own Vanguard 15 and also on big boats. She is on the board of both Harbor Island Yacht Club and NSF. When she is not sailing, you can find Julie working as an elementary school counselor here in Nashville or hiking on the trails. Julie is looking forward to passing on her passion and love of sailing to your child.
“I cannot begin to describe how much my two boys, ages 9 & 11, enjoyed HIYC Sail Camp. They simply COULD NOT WAIT to get to camp each morning and COULD NOT STOP TALKING about their day when they returned home. The counselors and the support staff are knowledgeable, friendly, well spoken, and AMAZING! I only wish we had known about this camp years ago!”
“Sailing camp teaches the campers to sail, but also it is a great opportunity to build self-esteem and a better understanding of themselves and how they relate to others.”
“My kids have been a part of sailing camp for years. My son started as a 7-year-old—now he is excited to be a camp counselor. Your kids will LOVE it!!!”
“This is such a fun camp! The kids learn so much about sailing and have a blast doing so. My son just completed a week here and absolutely loved it. He’s now asking for a sailboat and to come back again!”
